The United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) started off its 2025 Alpine season with competitions in the Midwest, N.California, Northwest, Grand Teton, Atlantic Highlands, Allegheny, and Eastern conferences over the past two weekends.
January 4th: Midwest Conference
For the Midwest region, the Lake Superior and Chicago division held its first race at Wild Mountain Ski Resort in Taylors Falls, MN. Saturday held both the giant slalom and slalom events for both men and women. St. Olaf College claimed 1st place overall in the men’s giant slalom. The Ole’s were led by senior Graham Barwick in 1st place over University of Wisconsin Madison’s Tanner Bence by 0.43 seconds. St.Olaf College’s Wyatt Schultz secured 4th place and teammate Austin Mjanger followed in 5th place.
St. Olaf’s Women's alpine team took 1st overall in Saturday’s giant slalom race. Leading the Ole’s was Kate Young in 1st place. Teammate Jessica Stanton took 3rd behind University of Minnesota Duluth’s Louise Scharin in 2nd place by 0.18 of a second. Winter Johnson of St.Olaf placed 5th. University of Minnesota Duluth claimed 2nd overall in the women’s giant slalom.
The men’s slalom race was also won by St.Olaf College. Led by senior Graham Warwick placing 1st followed by teammate junior Kerem Haymana in 2nd place. Kerem Haymana placed 22nd in the first run and 1st place in the second run over teammate Graham Warwick by 2.4 seconds. This put Kerem Haymana in 2nd place overall. University of Wisconsin Madison took 2nd overall with athletes Max Rebella in 4th place, William Hennen in 7th place and Will Maccarone finishing in 11th place.
The women’s slalom team overall was won by St.Olaf College. Jessica Stanton took 1st place over teammate Kate Young in 2nd place by 0.10 of a second. Teammate Winter Johnson took 4th place. University of Minnesota Duluth took 2nd overall with Ilsa Bastiaens placing 5th followed by teammate Louise Scharin in 6th place and teammate Paige Mueffelmann in 9th place.
The Michigan and Ohio division held its race at Otsego Resort in Gaylord, MI, with men's and women's slalom events on Saturday. The University of Michigan took 1st place overall for women's slalom. The University of Michigan claimed 2nd place with Isabella Rossey, then 3rd place with Lauren Carlson, and 4th place with Ellie Gruber. Michigan State University came in 2nd place with Isabella Rossey taking home the individual victory.
For the men's slalom event, the University of Michigan took 1st place overall. University of Michigan’s Brady Koenig took 2nd place behind Michigan State University athlete Teegan McLoed by 2.11 seconds. University of Michigan’s Anthony Trovato placed 4th followed by teammate Maxwell Scott in 5th place.
On Sunday the giant slalom events took place. University of Michigan placed 1st overall in the women’s giant slalom with Maria Fornetti taking 1st place individually, followed by teammates Rebecca Yedid in 2nd place and Ashley Binette in 6th. Calvin University took 2nd overall with Annelise Kuiper coming in 7th place with teammates Erin Cawley in 9th place and Erin Buursma in 15th.
For the men's giant slalom event, the University of Michigan took 1st place overall with William Mollow in 1st place over Michigan State University athlete Teegan McLoed in 2nd place by 4.72 seconds. Brady Koenig of the University of Michigan took 3rd place followed by teammate Will Hallas in 4th place. Michigan State took 2nd overall.
January 11th-12th: Northwest Conference
To start the season, the Northwest Conference held its first race at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, ID. Saturday started the giant slalom events for both men and women. For the men, Montana State University took 1st place overall for the GS event with Jake Farwig claiming 1st place followed by teammate Zackary Niedzwiecki coming in 4th place and Erik Carlson in 7th place. Trailing behind Montana State for 2nd place was the College of Idaho. College of Idaho’s Carson Parco took 3rd behind University of Idaho’s Patrick Du in 2nd place by .02 second. College of Idaho’s Jiri Vesely took 5th place and teammate Cade McIntrye placed 16th.
Montana State University claimed the women’s slalom 1st place overall with Sierra Scanlan coming into 1st place with teammates Brenna Ritchie in 5th place and Sage Curtis in 6th place. University of Oregon took 2nd overall with Sage Sappenfield coming in 2nd place. Teammates Shona Flake took 9th place and Mia Schroeder in 15th place.
Sunday, the giant slalom events continued with Montana State University continuing their winning streak with 1st overall. Jake Farwig of Montana State University claimed 1st place with a 2.41-second lead over College of Idaho’s Carson Parco in 2nd place. Montana State claimed 5th place with Leo Demars and 6th place with Brady Spenlinhauer. Oregon State University took second overall with Nils Streedain taking 3rd place followed by teammate Giuliano Bianco coming in 4th place.
Montana State University wrapped up the weekend winning the final women’s race on Sunday. Sierra Scanlan continued her winning streak in 1st place followed by teammate Parker Crawford taking 2nd place. Montana State University’s Brenna Ritchie took 4th place. The women’s team from Oregon State University captured another 2nd place overall. Sage Sappenfield led the way taking 3rd place. Teammate Shona Flake claimed 12th place followed by Jenna Lynch in 15th place.
January 11th-12th: Grand Teton Conference
The Grand Teton region held two giant slalom races at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, ID. Rocky Mountain took first place on both Saturday and Sunday. Rocky Mountain College’s Aniol Torres took 1st place in Saturday’s race over fellow teammate Jules Clerice in 2nd place by 0.26 of a second. Fredrik Straume of Rocky Mountain College placed 3rd.
Rocky Mountain College’s freshman Eulalie Giraud took 1st place followed by teammate Synne Gaustad Kvinlog in 2nd place by 2.31 seconds. Elisabeth Grimkelsrud placed 3rd. The Sunday race was won by Fredrik Straume of Rocky Mountain College over teammate Elio Turnes in 2nd place by 3.19 seconds.
Eulalie Giraud of Rocky Mountain College won Sunday’s race. Synne Gaustad Kvinlog placed 2nd behind Eulalie by 2.81 seconds.
January 11th-12th: Atlantic Highlands Conference
The Atlantic Highlands region held its first race this season at West Mountain in Queensbury, NY. The giant slalom events were held on Saturday. Lafayette College took 1st place overall in the women’s category. Lindsay Correll of Lafayette College placed 3rd behind Kylie Samuelsen of Rutgers University in 2nd place. Paige Barta of The United States Military Academy took 1st place helping The United States Military Academy place 2nd overall. The men's giant slalom event was won by Fairfield University. Tj Rubin placed 3rd followed by teammate Timothy Teguis in 4th place. Leigh University took 2nd overall led by Aaron Martin placing 1st.
The slalom events were held on Sunday. Fairfield University took 1st in the women's category. Sarah Whitaker of Fairfield University placed 3rd behind Kylie Samuelseninand 2nd place at Rutgers University. Lafayette College placed 2nd overall.
The men's slalom event was won by Fairfield University. Timothy Teguis of Fairfield University took 2nd place behind Jame Lahrman of The United States Military Academy in 1st place by 5.63 seconds.
January 11th-12th: Allegheny Conference
The Allegheny region competed at Swain Ski Resort in Swain, NY. The giant slalom events were held on Saturday.
For the men's giant slalom event, Penn State University took 1st place. Blake Baughman of Pennsylvania State University placed 2nd behind Messiah University's Noah Richert by 3.53 seconds. Penn State University's Quinn Hughes placed 5th followed by teammate Benjamin Sonkin placing 6th. Messiah University took 2nd place. For the women's giant slalom event, Penn State University also took 1st place. Zoe Parizek of Penn State University placed 3rd followed by teammate Kat Osuchowski placing 4th. West Virginia University's Molly Burns placed 2nd helping West Virginia University take 2nd place overall.
For the men's slalom event, held on Sunday, Penn State University took 1st place. Blake Baughman of Penn State University placed 2nd behind Messiah University's Noah Richert by a huge 11.49 second margin. Pennsylvania State University Quinn Hughes placed 6th followed by teammate Drew Young placing 7th. Messiah University took 2nd place.
For the women's slalom event, Penn State University took 1st place. Zoe Parizek of Penn State University placed 3rd followed by teammate Natalie Malmgren in 4th place. Audra Robinson of Pennsylvania State University placed 6th. Faith Richert of Messiah University placed first helping Messiah University take 2nd place overall.
January 12th-13th: Eastern Conference
This past weekend the MacConnell division, one of four divisions in the Eastern conference, had its first race this weekend at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, VT. Saturday's race held the giant slalom events. In the women's field Vermont State University at Castleton claimed 1st place overall. Babson College placed 2nd. In the men's field, Babson College claimed 1st place overall followed by Clarkson University in 2nd place. Mads Fond Syversen from Babson won the men’s race, while Andrea Rodriguez from Vermont State University at Castleton won the women’s race.
On Sunday the slalom events took place. In the women's field Vermont State University at Castleton claimed 1st place overall followed by Babson College in 2nd. In the men's field, Babson College claimed 1st place overall with Vermont State University at Castleton in 2nd place. Alice Pomi from Vermont State University at Castleton took home the victory for the women and Elliot Perretta from Babson College won for the men.
