Become a USCSA Student Representative!

What is a Student Representative?
The USCSA exists for the students. Whether your team is a student-led club or has a faculty coach or director, students are the main constituents whose scheduling, rules, and financial interests the USCSA aims to support. The Student Reps advocate for those interests, and bridges the gaps between student athletes and volunteers, and between the leadership and the hill.

Student Reps also are USCSA student athletes interested in becoming more involved in the national organization and gaining experience in a leadership position. You support the USCSA’s national operations by providing direct feedback from the student athlete perspective. You get to be the eyes and ears gathering feedback from all parties that make USCSA events successful and provide value to our members.

What do I get to do?
Student Reps are asked to join two USCSA committees. Through your involvement with these committees, you will learn more about how the USCSA works while providing input from the perspective of a student athlete. If your skills and interests align with the USCSA’s specific needs at the time, we can create an internship opportunity for you to contribute to USCSA and gain credit at the same time!

Past student reps have supported the organization through marketing (graphic design, social media, newsletters, press releases); strategic planning (creating a vision for the organization, leading Town Hall discussions on strategy); and program development (growing the Nordic program in the Midwest).

Why become a Student Rep?
The USCSA seeks passionate athletes who are committed to furthering the mission of the USCSA. Student Reps play a unique yet important role in the USCSA structure by being a voice of competing athletes. You get to provide candid feedback on your experiences by serving on a committee and/or spearheading a project. Select what part of the organization you are most passionate about, and combine your skills with an opportunity for growth.

You get to collaborate with your fellow Reps to provide input to the Board of Directors, committees, and ad hoc improvements, and you have opportunities for mentorship and overall leadership development through direct access to the Board, elected Vice Presidents, Conference Coordinators and the Managing Director.

**Applications for 2022-2023 Student Reps
will be accepted March 1 - April 15, 2022**

Update on Fluorocarbons

In alignment with national and international rules and U.S. Ski & Snowboard protocols, effective starting in 2022 the USCSA prohibits the use of wax products containing fluorocarbons in all alpine and Nordic USCSA events. This applies to glide as well as kick waxes.

New for the 2022 Championships: Wildcard Berths for Alpine
These are intended to open up access to additional teams in the National Championship Alpine competition field, without inhibiting the existing field. We have seen an increasing level of competition in the Alpine field at our Nationals Championships, and we have unused allocations of competitors and berths that have been historically underutilized for 4-way competition. One Wildcard team would qualify from each of the six Regions, and those competitors would start their first run of competition after the existing qualified field.
SafeSport Act

The Safe Sport Act of 2017, and subsequent updates, mandates new safety requirements that aim to protect youth athletes through abuse prevention training and mandated reporting. The USCSA has adopted an Abuse and Molestation Prevention Policy and implemented additional training requirements on all adult coaches, volunteers, officials and organizational leadership affiliated with the organization.

The Safe Sport Act and USCSA's Abuse and Molestation Prevention Policy have a mandated reporting component. USCSA's adult coaches, volunteers, officials and organizational leadership (staff) affiliated with the organization are required to report suspected incidents within 24 hours to the appropriate authorities. Any suspected misconduct must also be reported to the appropriate Conference or Division Coordinator.
