DISCIPLINES

USCSA is made up of four disciplines, including Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Freeski and Nordic.

USCSA offers space for varsity teams and club teams, with a range of funding options from school support and paid coaching staff to volunteer- or student-led leadership. Competition level and ability ranges from highly competitive to a less competitive, intramural style club sport.

​A big difference between USCSA and other snowsport organizations is the team aspect: USCSA athletes compete as a team against other college teams and typically field five or more athletes, with the top three performances used for the team score. USCSA is made up of four disciplines including Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Freeski and Nordic.

Alpine Skiing

The USCSA offers events in all 11 conferences for the alpine skiing. Competition levels vary, with the Eastern Conference being the only Conference currently offering FIS sanctioned racing during the regular season. Regional and National Championships are highly competitive.

Snowboarders interested in speed events must register under the Snowboard Discipline.

Snowboard & Freeski

The disciplines of team-based snowboarding and freeskiing continue to show strong growth within the organization. The types of events offered vary significantly conference to conference, so please check your Conference's webpage and the Member Institution webpage for more information.

​This discipline also includes speed events for snowboarding.

  • Rail Jam

  • Slopestyle

  • Big Air

  • Skiercross & Boardercross

  • Snowboard Giant Slalom

  • Snowboard Slalom

Nordic

One of the fastest growing disciplines, many conferences offer Nordic events, and some conferences even combine to provide more racing opportunities. Event types alternate yearly between Classic and Freestyle, with highly competitive Regional Championships and National Championships.

Types of Events

  • 15km Mass Start

  • 7.5km Interval Start

  • 1.5km Sprint

  • ​Team Sprint


The USCSA welcomed Nordic Jumping several years ago and continues to offer this discipline at select venues when there is demand. If you have interest in jumping, please contact our National Office for more details.

Events are held in all conferences, culminating with a Regional Competition to qualify for the National Championships.

Some conferences do not offer all disciplines, so please check your Conference's webpage for more details. Contact your Conference Coordinator about adding disciplines, or competing with other conferences if this is unavailable.
