NYSEF Head Men's FIS Coach: Whiteface Mountain

The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) is seeking an experienced and versatile alpine ski racing coach to lead its Men’s FIS program at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York.

 

NYSEF is looking for a coach who understands ski racing from both the athlete development and program management perspectives. The ideal candidate brings expertise in the technical, tactical, physical, and mental skills required for success at the FIS, collegiate, and national team levels.

 

This coach will work directly with FIS-level athletes in the NYSEF program, including student-athletes enrolled at Northwood School. The position also plays a key role in supporting the overall development of NYSEF’s alpine program, which serves athletes from U10 through post-graduate levels.

 

NYSEF seeks a leader who can build strong relationships with individual athletes while fostering a positive team culture that helps athletes pursue their goals. The successful candidate will work closely with coaches, staff, parents, and supporters throughout the NYSEF community to create a healthy and high-performing environment.

About NYSEF

Founded in 1973, the New York Ski Educational Foundation has grown from a small alpine racing program into one of the leading snowsports organizations in the United States.

 

NYSEF develops athletes across multiple disciplines, including alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, nordic combined, and biathlon. The organization has helped athletes reach national teams, Olympic teams, and international competition throughout its history.

 

NYSEF operates programs at New York State venues managed by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), including Belleayre, Gore, and Whiteface Mountains.

 

The organization also maintains a longstanding partnership with Northwood School, the coeducational independent boarding school in Lake Placid, New York. Student-athletes who attend Northwood School rely on NYSEF for their competitive snowsports programming.

 

NYSEF’s mission is to provide athletes of all ages with opportunities to reach their full potential in

snowsports through professional coaching, athlete development, and financial support.

 

Position Overview

This full-time, year-round position leads all Men’s FIS preparation and competition programming at Whiteface Mountain.

The Head Men’s FIS Coach will oversee on-snow training, strength and conditioning programs, athlete development initiatives, and competition schedules. The coach will work closely with the broader coaching staff to deliver a competitive program and support all alpine ski racing operations at Whiteface.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and executing annual training and competition programs

  • Leading on-snow training sessions, summer and fall projects, and race travel

  • Supporting athlete development both on and off the snow

  • Coordinating program logistics and overseeing project revenues and expenses

  • Communicating clearly and consistently with athletes, families, staff, and stakeholders

  • Providing equipment guidance and support for athletes

  • Collaborating with coaching staff to strengthen NYSEF’s alpine programming

Qualifications and Experience

NYSEF is seeking candidates with:

  • Coaching experience with regional, national, or international alpine ski racing programs

  • Experience working with FIS-age athletes and high-performance development pathways

  • Expertise in on-snow and off-snow performance analysis

  • Experience working with US Ski & Snowboard and the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS)

  • Strong knowledge of alpine racing equipment setup and athlete-specific customization

  • Extensive familiarity with major competition venues

  • Thorough understanding of FIS regulations and competition protocols

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills

Reporting Structure

The Head Men’s FIS Coach reports directly to the Alpine Program Director and collaborates with venue managers, staff members, the NYSEF Board of Directors, and local community partners.

 

The position is based at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York.
